You may already be aware that since 1989, most new homes in England and Wales have been metered. In addition, many customers have opted for a water meter resulting in more than 25% of homes having meters. Since 1st April 2002, Three Valleys Water (TVW) have been installing water meters when a property changes ownership in certain parts of their Southern, Western and Eastern regions. From 1st November 2004, metering on change of ownership will be effective throughout the whole of the TVW service area.
In most cases the meter will be installed externally in soft ground (typically the front garden) or in an existing meter box. This will generally be done within 2 months of TVW receiving notification of the change of ownership.
TVW are installing meters in accordance with the power given in S144b of the Water Industry Act 1991.
